Lewis Liu, Ph.D. is an expert in materials science and semiconductors/optoelectronics. Presently, Lewis serves as the Business Development Manager for Plessey Semiconductors in Cambridge, UK where he carries out business development and strategic marketing activities for the newly formed high-brightness light-emitting diode (HB LED) business at Plessey Semiconductors, bringing the in-house manufactured high quality, low cost HB LED products to the market. He also is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge where he obtained his PhD. His research involves using transmission electron microscopy and electron holography to investigate III-nitride materials, structures, and LED devices, in particular the internal electric field and charge distribution at heterojunctions and defects. He is skilled in a variety of microscopy and microanalysis techniques, including electron holography, dual-beam FIB, WB-DF, HR-TEM (with multi-slice simulation and GPA), CBED (with simulation) and STEM-HAADF, etc. Dr. Liu has presented his academic work at many conferences worldwide including the 17th International Microscopy Congress, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and The Second UK-China PhD forum "Green innovation", Edinburgh, UK. For his academic achievement he was awarded the IFSM (International Federation of Societies for Microscopy) Scholarship for young scientists.

Lewis co-founded CamGaN Ltd. to commercialize the ground-breaking GaN-based light-emitting diode (LED) research at the University of Cambridge, where over 10 years has been devoted to the basic and applied research that will potentially bring a revolution to the world's lighting. CamGaN was acquired by Plessey Semiconductors at the end of 2011.

Lewis holds a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Cambridge, and a BEng in Materials Science and Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.
