Merlin D. Schulze is a managing director at the Touchstone Group, a private equity placement firm. He was also founder and president of MDS Associates, formed in 1989, providing marketing, corporate development, technology commercialization, and financial advice to Fortune 100 corporations, federal laboratories, and over 100 startups and development stage companies. During 1994, he was also vice president, ventures, Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corp. (MCC). From 1984-88, he was a managing director of PaineWebber Capital, Inc., a subsidiary of PaineWebber Group (since acquired by UBS AG) serving as managing general partner of the firm's venture capital unit (now Ampersand Ventures), vice president and director of PaineWebber Development Corp., a director of PaineWebber Trust Company, and president and director, PaineWebber Executive Investments, Inc. Before PaineWebber, he was with Xerox Corporation for 18 years including serving as the first resident executive advisor to Fuji-Xerox Ltd. in Tokyo, Japan, as executive assistant to the president, International Operations, as a founder of Xerox Development Corp., a venture investment, new business start-up and corporate development subsidiary, and as head of corporate development. Earlier, he was a consultant with Booz, Allen and Hamilton, Inc. He is a founder and managing director of Touchstone Group, LLC, a specialized financial services and investment banking firm, formed in 2002. He has served as a director of private companies and was a member of the Commercialization Roundtable, a group of corporate development executives from major U.S. companies including IBM, Dow, DuPont, Motorola, GTE, DEC, and Xerox, working to establish technology commercialization best practices.
