Small Business Innovative Research Technical Assistance

Under the 2026 reauthorization for the federal Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program, SBIR Phase I and II grant recipients can get $6,500 and $50,000 for Technical and Business Assistance (TABA) on top of their research awards. This new federal law authorizes SBIR awardees to select their own provider, giving companies more control over the commercialization expertise they receive.

ICatalysts would welcome the opportunity to serve as your TABA partner.

For more than 20 years, ICatalysts has helped science based technology companies accelerate commercialization through market validation, customer development, fundraising, intellectual property strategy, manufacturing planning, regulatory planning, cybersecurity, and go-to-market execution.

Our commercialization experience includes:

  • DOE SBIR Outreach & Training (2021–early 2025): Served as a lead Department of Energy (DOE) SBIR outreach and training provider through the National Renewable Laboratory (NREL/National Lab relationship). We trained representatives from more than 1,000 companies on developing competitive Phase I and Phase II proposals and commercialization strategies. We also held one-on-one office hours with more than 100 companies, advising founders on commercialization plans, customer discovery, fundraising, and Phase II readiness.

  • DOE Commercialization Provider (2024–late 2025): ICatalysts was selected by DOE’s Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC), through their ENERGYWERX vehicle, as an approved commercialization services provider. During this work, we supported companies that had successfully won multiple DOE SBIR Phase I and Phase II awards with commercialization planning and business growth activities.

  • State funded commercialization support:  California Energy Commission and New York Energy Research and Development Authority Commercialization Consultant:  Since 2015, served as a commercialization and R&D consultant and tech to market expert on several contracts including due diligence reviews of grantees, and training/assisting over 100 startups in securing pilots and funding.
  • Broad Clean Energy Commercialization Experience: Helped 200 startups, 30 universities, and large companies and utilities across numerous technology sectors. Startups supported have raised more than $6B.
